WHO IS JEN MATTSON?

Jennifer Mattson was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and also studied abroad in Beer Sheva, Israel and Granada, Spain. Upon graduation from Barnard she entered law school at William Mitchell College of Law. Attending law school at night allowed Jennifer to work for Judge J. Thomas Mott as his Judicial Law Clerk for a number of years during his tenures as Chief Judge of the 2nd Judicial District and Chair of the Conference of Chief Judges. Judge Mott presided over a number of criminal matters and asbestos litigation.

Following law school, Jennifer joined Neighborhood Justice Center, a small non-profit organization specializing in the representation of minority, low-income people in criminal matters. She gained a greater appreciation for the systems outside of the 2nd Judicial District (Saint Paul) representing people in all metro counties.

In August 2004, Jennifer left NJC and opened her law office in her neighborhood, the same one she grew up in. Jennifer understands that people will only respect the system if they have a qualified and successful advocate and she is committed to helping clients fight the charges they face. Mattson Law Office also services pro bono cases and reduced fee clients through Criminal Defense Services, which operates in St. Paul. Jennifer Mattson has also served in the 10th Judicial District for the Public Defender's Office. There, she represented people in CHIPS or Child Protection matters and advocated for children accused in juvenile delinquency cases.

Jennifer is a current member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Minnesota Bar Association and the Ramsey County Bar Association. She is also a member of the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a member of their legislative committee. She has attended the 39th Annual Criminal Justice Institute and the 1st Annual Public Defender's Trial School.
